2025 OPEN SUBMISSION PERIOD - FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SCHOLARSHIP
(Westwood, NJ - March 21, 2025) The Vito Trause Memorial Charitable Fund is pleased to announce the open submission period - through May 5th 2025 - for the Friday Night Lights Scholarship. This scholarship is directly in line with the Fund’s mission; to honor the extraordinary life of everyone’s pal, Vito Trause and celebrates one of his most cherished activities, attending Friday Night Lights at Westwood Regional, which showcases all that is good in our extended high school community.
The $1000.00 Friday Night Lights Scholarship will be presented to a Westwood Regional High School senior enrolling in a two/four year college, accredited trade school, or branch of the military. Prior recipients of the Friday Night Lights Scholarship: Luke Rekucki (2020), Ian Borgersen/Meghan Reidel (2021), James Stickel (2022), Jack Makdis (2023), Joe Klein (2024).
Candidates for consideration must have a minimum two-year participation commitment in the Friday Night Lights experience at Westwood Regional High School as a member of the Cardinals football team, cheer squad, marching band, color guard, or as a student-athlete that has supported Friday Night Lights via the Crazies.
The submission criteria for consideration of this award is a 350-500 word, double spaced, 12pt font essay in response to the following question: Through knowing Vito Trause personally - or via research - how will his legendary life impact your future? SIGN THE PETITION -Cardinal fans - we need an outpouring of support to show the Board of Education our community wants this! We put in the request over three years ago to name our stadium (bleachers) after our #1 fan Vito Trause.

The WWRSD Board of Education is planning a public hearing on Monday, June 21st, 2020 on the application to name the high school stadium in honor of Vito Trause. A super-majority of the Board will be required to approve the application (6/9 votes in favor).
